Location of event
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to discuss how in the current EU aid architecture and with an increased shift towards alignment and harmonization at the country level, targeted funding for health does not decrease and the individual health MDGs continue to be addressed. It will look specifically at how ODA for health which is spent at the country level can be monitored by civil society. The opportunities for generating additional resources for health through innovative financing mechanisms, such as the Currency Transaction Levy, will also be discussed.
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to discuss how communities at the country level contribute to health systems strengthening and what the EU could do to promote comprehensive and strong primary health care systems. It will also address the critical shortage of health workers in developing countries and what should be done by the EU to solve this situation.
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to discuss how the EU can support and be more proactive in its own policies with regard to the delivery of health care fee at the point of use in developing countries and guarantee more effective policies to enable vulnerable groups, in particular women and girls, to access their right to free and adequate health services. It will also look at how the EU could promote the IHP+ Guidelines on civil society involvement and ensure meaningful civil society involvement in the development of national health plans.
