The Political Bureau of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) meets on 15-16 February in Gijon (Spain) at the invitation of the President of Principado de Asturias, Mr Vicente Alberto Álvarez Areces.
The Spanish Minister for Territorial Policy, Mr Manuel Chaves, will present the prospects for the Spanish presidency and the role of the regions. Other subjects on the agenda will in particular relate to: the future EU budget and the consultation on the EU2020 strategy, a new European situation (new Commission, new Parliament, intergroups, Lisbon Treaty, and their consequences for the regions), the future of European cohesion policy, innovation and research, maritime affairs and parliamentary intergroup, the regions’ participation in European development policy (preparing 2014-2020), the CPMR’s participation in international networks of regional authorities, energy and environmental issues and the reform of the CAP.
