Location of event
In the light of the recently held local elections in Kosovo, ALDE group is organizing a hearing for the Serbian minority party from Kosovo, the Independent Liberal Party (Samostalna liberalna stranka - SLS), and the Liberal Democratic Party (Liberalno demokratska partija - LDP) from Serbia, entitled "Breaking the Boycott and Self-isolation".
The SLS is the only Serbian minority party that participates in the Kosovo political life, despite Belgrade's efforts to maintain its influence over the Serbian population in Kosovo. Its candidates have been elected mayors in four Kosovo municipalities with a Serbian majority in the December 2009 local elections. When it comes to the efforts to encourage the Serbians in Kosovo to start participating in Kosovo political life, the importance of the SLS can hardly be overestimated. At the same time, the LDP is the only political party from Serbia that has openly supported the Serbian participation in the Kosovo politics and election process. The hearing is aimed at fostering the ties between the liberals in the region with ALDE and their European partners.
