Location of event

At a turning point for the European Union, Belgian and European leaders and experts in the field of Culture meet to keep and defend their views of a cultural Europe. Indeed, the City of Liege has accepted to co-organise our meeting on the 8th and 9th of July 2010 in the framework of the Presidency of the Council of the EU.

What are the priorities drafted by Belgium at the head of the Council of Ministers for Culture of the 27 Member States next semester?

What is to be expected from cross-border cultural cooperation? Can one speak of a promising European specificity? What sort of dynamics do these collaborations give to the great cultural projects?

Besides, how do local and regional authorities manage to enforce such projects, thus improving the quality of life and contributing to the creation of European citizenship?

It is this type of questions that our meeting will try to answer. At the round table, the aldermen in charge of culture and their ministers will debate next to European professionals, cultural actors as well as members of the Les Rencontres network.

The meeting goes beyond the tasks of an info day since participants will be able to exchange on good practices – especially the projects that have been carried out thanks to financial support of the European Commission – next to networking activities.

We are still working on the programme but we can already present you its main lines:
In the first session, the Minister of Culture of the French Community of Belgium, who will chair the EYC (Culture) Council of the EU, will formally present the priorities of the Belgian Presidency in the field of Culture. The second session will address the topic of cross-border cooperation in cultural projects. In the afternoon, a third session will be focussed on the good practices that enhance the role of cultural policies in the improvement of the citizens’ quality of life.
