Location of event
Twin ministerial conferences will be held over two days looking at the future of social protection systems and pensions for European citizens, including their suitability and budgetary issues.
The conferences have the joint objective of encouraging debate about the central, positive role of social protection in the European socio-economic model, especially during a period of socio-economic crisis. There are many crucial questions to be tackled, for example: What balance can be found between the priority objectives of social protection and the economic situation? How can we promote the idea of a shared threshold of well-being?
Pensions: suitability and sustainability
The first day will concentrate on the recent reforms undertaken in EU pensions systems. Have they achieved their stated goals or not? What suitable reforms could be developed in future to ensure sufficient pensions in a sustainable economic model?
The right to adequate social protection for all
The second day will be given over to the role of social protection in the European socio-economic model. International experts will seek to defend minimum wage policies in connection with well-being, and determine a balance between priority measures to ensure the right to adequate social protection in tomorrow’s Europe.
